I love teaching flute just as much as I love playing flute! I enjoy getting to know my students on a personal level and strive to have a studio where every student feels welcome, supported, and excited about the flute! My students receive private lessons, group performance classes, recitals, and other fun events throughout the year. I strive to individualize lessons for each student because we are all different and learn in different ways. My students work on solo repertoire, scales and etudes, and duet and chamber music. Tone and technique are the basic foundation of good flute playing, and are emphasized. General musicianship and interpretation, music theory, and music history are also included in my teaching.
I have been teaching flute since I was fourteen years old and have taught all ages and levels. Several of my students have gone on to study flute in college and have received scholarships to pay for their tuition. Many of my students have played first chair in band, received superior ratings at solo and ensemble, and been accepted into youth symphonies. I have lots of experience with brand new beginners, have taught college level flute lessons at a major university and was on the faculty at Fox River Academy of Music and Arts in Oswego, Illinois for several years. I have conducted flute choirs, children's choirs, and taught general music courses at Salt Lake Community College.
I currently teach in my home studio in Syracuse, Utah and via Skype.
